Iris 2 has been gone for years, and nothing really replaced the idea of painting a spectrum and playing what’s left. Iota II picks it up: six sample slots feeding up to twelve playback paths, each running in normal, spectral FFT-filtered or resynthesis mode, with spectral and biquad filters, delay, overdrive, sample reduction and ring modulation on board. Modulation comes from two multi-wave LFOs with Perlin noise, two looping envelopes, two path-following sequencers and MPE. VST3, AU, LV2 and standalone for macOS, Windows and Linux, $60 with a free trial.
2. Sentient, an AUv3 Synthesizer for iOS and macOS powered by a neural network

Valery Mironov’s wavetable synth builds its oscillator from what it hears. Feed it everyday sounds and a self-organizing network finds the neuron that matches the input best, updates it hard and its neighbors more gently, so the resulting sound space stays continuous instead of jumping between presets. The interface leans playful: two neural hemispheres as grids of cells, a planet-shaped browser for stored states, an eight-key keyboard drawn from Lissajous curves. Standalone and AUv3 for iPhone, iPad and Apple Silicon Macs, $5.99.
